The Alley Theatre in Strabane is the first venue in the Derry City and Strabane District Council (DCSDC) to work towards becoming Autism friendly.

The venue is currently in the process of making changes to make it more suited for people with autism.

Jackie Doherty is the venue manager at the Alley Theatre.

She said there was a training day held for over 30 members of staff and that changes would be made to the venue - such as quiet rooms, more digital and visual aspects:

This Saturday the Mayor of DCSDC, Maolíosa McHugh will be presenting certificates to the staff who completed the workshop and aknowledge the two successful autism champions.

They received an AQA on features of Autism Spectrum Disorder.

The centre will also be presented with a plaque for its achievements to becoming autism friendly.

It's hoped that the Alley Theatre will be one of a number of arts and cultural venues across the council area to achieve the Autism Impact Award by 2018.
