The funeral of former Derry City captain took place at Long Tower Chapel in Derry today.

He passed away suddenly on Sunday night, aged just 27.

As the funeral left his home this morning, mourners lined the streets to pay their respects to Ryan.

His football team mates and friends led the guard of honour for his coffin as they made their way to the chapel.

Speakers were placed outside as the crowds were too big to allow everyone who attended the funeral, into the chapel.

Father Aidan Mullan said the mass for Ryan McBride and reflected on him as a person and a footballer.

He was described as a "legend" and a player that would put his head where other footballers wouldn't put their boot.

His mother was mentioned as a positive impact on his life, making Ryan the good natured person that he was.

Derry City FC manager Kenny Shiels paid tribute to his former player by sharing an emotional and personal poem at the funeral.

While some fans and friends have taken to the streets of Derry or attended the funeral to say their final goodbyes; others have made their own personal tributes in memory of the former Derry City captain.
