Glentoran suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat in the UEFA Women's Champions League on Wednesday.

They had a noon showdown with Swiss champions Servette in Finland.

The Danske Women's Premiership side suffered an early blow, conceding in the first minute.

However, they battled back bravely after that and pushed the hot favourites all the way.

It's a new competition format with four teams in a mini-tournament, starting with the two semi-finals.

In the other match Cluj from Romania lost 4-0 to host Finnish club Aland United.

The winners of the two ties will meet in the final on Saturday, with the victors advancing to the second round of the competition.

The defeated semi-finalists meet in a play-off for third place.

The Glens were up against it as their Swiss opponents reached the last 16 of last season's Champions League.

However, the east Belfast side have been flying high locally, top of the league, also going for cup glory and scoring for fun with a team packed full of Northern Ireland internationals.

They did the club and the country proud.

Next up the Romanians on Saturday and a chance to finish in Finland on a high note.

With the Glens away, Cliftonville took their chance to move above them at the top of the Danske Women's Premiership.

They beat bottom side Derry City 12-0 at Solitude - Kirsty McGuinness hit five goals and there were four for Marissa Callaghan.

The Reds are two points clear with five games to play, including away to the Glens on September 29th.

Meanwhile, it's been confirmed the Northern Ireland women's team is set for a groundbreaking home game next month.

After a decade, it's finally happening...
