A driver's been left badly shaken after his car was hijacked by a gang of men in Newtownards.

It happened in the Comber Road area late last night.

Three men - one armed with a knife - approached the vehicle at the junction of Blenheim Drive.

They demanded to be driven to Rathgill Estate in Bangor, where they left the vehicle.

A PSNI statement said:

"At approximately 11.30pm as a male driver approached the junction of Blenheim Drive and Comber Road three unknown males approached his vehicle.  One of the men, who was carrying a knife ordered the driver to take them to Bangor.  All three men then got into the car.  The three males then got out of the car near Rathgill estate, Bangor."

"The driver of the car was not injured during this incident, however he was left very badly shaken by his ordeal."

Detective Sergeant McKee said:

"I would appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident or saw these three men alight from this vehicle in the Rathgill estate to contact police at Bangor on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 2398 11/07/19.  Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime."
