Glentoran have snapped up a Lithuanian international striker to further boost their Danske Bank Premiership title bid.

The new recruit is 36-time capped Deivydas Matulevičius who two years ago was playing for Hibs in the Scottish Premiership.

The 30-year-old could make his Glens debut in Saturday's league match against Coleraine at the Oval, if international clearance is through.

The capture follows a string of signings in the January transfer window.

The club has issued a statement on the latest addition who's already being called 'Big Davey' at the Oval!

"Glentoran FC is delighted to announce the signing of Lithuanian international centre forward, Deivydas Matulevičius.

30-year old Deivydas (Dave) has won 36 international caps to date, and most recently played for FK Kauno Zalgiris in his home country. He had a spell in 2017-18 in the SPFL with Hibs under Neil Lennon, and has also had spells playing in Poland, Romania and Belgium.

Head Coach, Mick McDermott said of Deivydas.: “Deivydas is a very experienced professional. With 36 caps for Lithuania - most recently last October and November against Ukraine, Portugal and Serbia - it shows that he has the quality to succeed in our League

We have been tracking him and speaking to him for a while and we know that he is a great addition to our team. We know our Glentoran community will welcome him with open arms, as it has with all our signings this season.

We lost a few forwards in the transfer window and lost Cameron with an injury for the next while, so we needed to act in this area. We need to be flexible in our approach to various games, so I’m happy we now have a variety of forwards who will give us the flexibility to whatever style we think fits the circumstances.”
