A shop worker has been left badly shaken after being threatened by a man armed with a knife during an attempted burglary in Newry.

It happened in the Dublin Road area shortly after 8am this morning.

The suspect approached the till and brandished the weapon towards a woman working behind the counter.

He then made off empty handed on foot towards the Chancellors Road area.

The woman wasn't injured during the incident.

The man is described as wearing an orange coloured hooded jacket with black sleeves, navy tracksuit bottoms and dark coloured trainers.

Police are investigating and have urged anyone with information to contact them on the non-emergency 101 number.
