Detectives are appealing for witnesses after four masked men broke into a property in west Belfast on Saturday night.

Police say the incident took place shortly before seven in the Oranmore Street area.

The suspects stole jewellery and then made off on foot.

Detective Inspector Corrigan said:

“Between 6.45pm and 7.05pm four males entered a house in the Oranmore Street area and pushed the occupant onto the sofa.

“We believe they were wearing gloves and one of the men was masked. They then made off on foot after searching the address.

“Thankfully the victim was not injured during this terrifying ordeal but has understandably been left very shaken up.

“Our enquiries are continuing and we would ask anyone with any information to contact on 101 quoting reference number 1484 22/01/22.”

Sinn Féin MLA Pat Sheehan says older person living there, whilst not injured, has been left badly shaken.

He is urging anyone with information to bring it forward to the police:

“This was a disgusting incident and the woman has been left badly shaken.

“Elderly people, like everyone, should feel safe and secure in their homes.

“I would urge anyone with any information on this crime to bring it forward to the police.”
