We all love a good portion of fish and chips, right?

Some people will go further than others for the fast food treat, but these Northern Irish businessmen are taking things to a whole new level!

Alan Hanna, owner of the Pitstop Fast Food, Kilkeel and Malachy Mallon, owner of the Dolphin Takeway, Dungannon plan to serve up a fishy-dish on mount Kilimanjaro.

The 'Chippy Challenge' is to raise money for the Fishermen's mission Charity and is sponsored by McWhinney’s Sausages.

The pair will scale the tallest free-standing mountain in the world at the start of next month, but they plan to set-up the world’s highest pop-up fish & chip shop at  the top.

It'll take place at Kilmanjaro’s Barafu Camp – a dizzying 4650 metres above sea level.

They also plan to cook fish & chips and a few additional UK chippy favourites for the local orphanage before their record attempt. Fortune Kids and Education Foundation Orphanage Center is located under the slope of Mount Meru in Nshupu Village.

It was established in February 2016 and cares for children under five years old. A donation will also be made to the orphanage to help support their good work.

Alan Hanna said, ‘We are absolutely delighted with the response to our recent call for sponsorship and we are proud to announce McWhinney’s Sausages as our title sponsor for the Kilimanjaro Chippy Challenge.

"Our sincere thanks and praise also go out to all our category sponsors so far, including Kerry Foods, Florigo Frying Equipment, Unique Seafood and we are hoping to have a few more big names on board in the next few weeks.

Malachy Mallon added, “It is our aim to raise lots of money for charity but we also wish to showcase the passion and unity of the UK Fish & Chip industry and promote fish & chips as healthier takeaway option.

"The Kilimanjaro Chippy Challenge is the perfect way to do all that in record-breaking style, on top of a world stage, and we are looking forward to the challenge!”
