Neighbourhood Police have been speaking to local youth about 'The Dangers of Social Media' and how to protect themselves online at a recent Youth Engagement Programme meeting in Dungannon.
They discussed offences under the Communications Act; which is sending out messages that are offensive, indecent or cause anxiety to another person and harrassment offences.
It was also highlighted that 'Sharing of' similar messages is treated as an offence as well.
A spokesperson for the PSNI made an appeal to parents:
"In a generation where lots of our kids have phones, x boxes, iPad, computers please speak to your children about their online security.
"Remember if you don't speak to strangers in life, why does it become acceptable online!"
