Man arrested after suspected firearm seized in north Belfast

A 35-year-old has been arrested following the discovery of a firearm in north Belfast. 

He's also suspected of making threats to kill and possession of class B drugs.   

It follows a report of criminal damage to a car in the Cregagh Road area at around 1.30am this morning.

Enquiries resulted in a follow up search of a property in the Kinnaird Street area during which a number of items were seized. 

A PSNI spokesperson: "Detectives from Musgrave Street CID, supported by officers from the Belfast Local Policing Team investigating a report of criminal damage, have arrested a 35 year old man and seized a suspected firearm during a search of a property in north Belfast in the early hours of this morning. 

"Police received a report at around 1.30 am on Saturday (January 23rd) that the window vehicle of a vehicle parked in the Cregagh Road area had been smashed.

"Enquiries resulted in a follow up search of a property in the Kinnaird Street area of north Belfast, during which a number of items were seized including a suspected firearm.

"A 35 year old man was arrested on suspicion of threats to kill, criminal damage, possession of a class B drug and carrying firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence. He remains in police custody at this stage.

"Enquiries are continuing and police would appeal to anyone with any information or may have witnessed anything suspicious in the Cregagh Road area on Saturday morning to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 78 of 23/01/21."
