Detectives have arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder after shots were fired at a house in County Armagh.

A woman and her son escaped unharmed when it happened in Cullyhanna village last month.

The PSNI has a 33-year-old man in custody.

In a statement a spokesperson for the service said: "Detectives investigating the report of a shooting incident in the Cloghoge Road area of Cullyhanna on the evening of Wednesday, 21 February have arrested a 33 year old man on suspicion of a number of offences including attempted murder, possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and grievous bodily harm.

"He remains in police custody.

"Detective Sergeant Bell Would appeal to anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the area or anyone who has information that would assist with police enquiries to contact Detectives at Ardmore on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 1560 21/02/18. Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime."
