A man has been left badly shaken after four masked men, one armed with what's believed to have been a crowbar, forced entry into his home in Newtownabbey.

It happened at around 9.35pm on Monday night, in the Abbeyville Park area.

Police say once they were inside, they searched the property and damaged a computer.

The men fled the scene a short time later, in what has been described as a small, possibly white-coloured car.

The homeowner was not injured as a result of the ordeal.

The PSNI has described two of the suspects as having worn dark clothing and were approximately 5'8-5'10" tall.

A third suspect is believed to have been around the same height, wearing gold rimmed glasses, black clothing and with the lower part of his face covered.

He's also said to have work yellow or green coloured gardening gloves.

The fourth suspect is believed to be around 6'2", of a large but lean build and wearing rimless glasses and black clothing.

He also wore latex-type gloves and the lower part of his face covered.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have been in the Abbeyville Park area around that time and noticed men or a light coloured vehicle acting suspiciously.

Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting reference number 1371 of 24/09/18.

Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous.
