Four men have been arrested in Co Down this morning after police deployed a stinger device to stop a stolen car in its tracks.
The Volswagen Golf was taken from the Beechmount Walk area of west Belfast shortly after 10am this morning, before being driven erratically along the M1.
Police deployed the specialist equipment in Dundrum and the vehicle came to a halt near Seaforde.
The suspects, who are aged between 18 and 21, have been released on bail are being quizzed by detectives.
PSNI Inspector Hardy said: "Shortly after 10am, it was reported that a dark blue Volkswagen Golf, which was parked in the Beechmount Walk area of west Belfast, was stolen.
"The car was later seen being driven erratically on the M1 Motorway before being seen in the Magheraknock Road area of Ballynahinch at around 10:30am.
"Shortly after 10:50am, the vehicle was seen heading towards the Newcastle area along the Dundrum Road.
"It was again seen driven in an erratic manner in Newcastle as it then headed towards Dundrum.
"At around 11am, the vehicle entered Dundrum at which time a stinger device was deployed. The vehicle headed on in the direction of Seaforde where it came to a halt. Four men then exited the vehicle.
"Two men were arrested. Two other men were arrested a short time later.
"They were all arrested on suspicion of a number of offences and are in police custody at this time.”
Inspector Hardy added: "Anyone who witnessed this incident, or who captured footage, is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference CW 662 26/06/21."
