A delivery driver has been left shaken following an armed robbery in Carrickfergus.

He was approached by two men in the Fergus Court area shortly before 9.40pm on Sunday 19th February.

One of the men was believed to be holding a gun which he pointed at the van driver and demanded money.

He’s described as being just under 6 ft tall and was wearing black gloves, a black jacket and a balaclava.

The second man was wearing a grey hoody and carrying a long blade.

The pair demanded money from the man before smashing the window of his van and stealing a box with a sum of cash.

They then made off in the direction of the Sunnylands area.

Police say the delivery driver was not physically hurt but has been left badly shaken.

Inspector Martin Ruddy said: “This was a very frightening incident for the delivery driver who was providing a service to the local community and I would appeal to anyone with information to make that available.”

Police are appealing for witnesses about the incident to contact them at Carrickfergus PSNI Station on the non-emergency number 101 quoting 1181 of the 19/02/2017. Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.
