Blankets of snow and ice hit Northern Ireland

A snow and ice warning has been issued across Ireland with temperatures plunging below zero overnight.

Met Eireann said the orange weather warning will remain in place until 6pm on Friday.

Forecasters have said temperatures will drop to as low as minus 3C in the north west throughout Friday.

The public has been warned to beware of icy roads and footpaths.

In Northern Ireland a yellow wind warning was issued for parts of Derry - Londonderry and Antrim.

Yellow warnings for snow and ice have also been issued across the region from midnight on Friday to 6pm on Saturday.

According to the Met Office a covering of snow has hit parts of Northern Ireland on Friday morning which will cause some disruption.
