16 further covid-19 related deaths in NI and 759 new cases confirmed

A further 16 people have died in Northern Ireland linked to Covid-19.

It brings the death toll recorded by the Department of Health to 1,476. 

759 new cases of the virus have also been detected since yesterday. 

The number of confirmed cases in Northern Ireland is doubling at a slower rate (43 days) over the last seven days compared with the doubling rate in the seven days before that, official analysis said.

It follows the imposition of tough lockdown measures after Christmas.

There are currently 701 covid patients in hospitals in Northern Ireland, which has risen from 670 the previous day.

52 people are in ICU, with 37 on ventilators.
