A 12 year old boy has been rescued by quick-thinking surfers after being swept out to sea.
The child had been body-boarding with his family at the White Rocks beach in Portrush when he was caught in a rip current and pulled from the shore.
Two nearby surfers spotted the young boy being pulled out to sea and immediately went to help, pulling him to safety.
Coleraine Coastguard praised the actions of the surfers, a spokesperson said:
"At 11.30am on Sunday 19th February, Coastguard Rescue Officers from Coleraine and PSNI personnel were tasked to the Whiterocks Beach Portrush, following a 999 call to CGOC Belfast Coastguard, reporting a child being swept out to sea.
"Two quick-thinking surfers immediately went to his assistance and brought him to safety.
"Appropriate safety advice was given by the Coastguard Team on scene."
