After a decade-long campaign, Cricket Ireland is this morning celebrating being awarded Test Status.

The men in green will now be the men in white, as they've earned the right to play at the highest level the game has to offer.

Captain William Porterfield spoke to Q Radio Sport to express his delight.

He told us it's exciting for the future of the sport in Ireland.

Players previously had to represent other nations such as England in order to play tests.

The batsman says yesterday's news makes Irish cricket more appealing.

Porterfield says he's excited to play in the side's first ever Test Match (expected to be 2018).

The Donemana man says it's will help secure the future of Cricket in the north west.
