Coates to miss rest of season

Crusaders captain Colin Coates is set to miss the rest of the season with an ankle injury.

The 31-year-old defender is due to have surgery this week.

The reigning champions face Ballinamallard in the Danske Bank Premiership at Seaview on Monday night, hoping to restore their seven-point lead at the top. 



Linfield cut the gap to four points at the weekend by beating Ards 5-1 at Windsor Park.


Mallards keeper Richard Brush says with the Blues breathing down their necks the heat is on Stephen Baxter's men.

The Fermanagh side are 10th in the table, eight points above the relegation play-off place with seven games remaining. 

Coleraine moved into third place on Saturday with a 2-1 victory against Glenavon.

Jamie McGonigle hit both goals at Mourneview Park. 

 

Goalkeeper Chris Johns says it was a battle but the Bannsiders were determined to make it 11 wins in 12 matches.

The teams will meet again in the Irish Cup semi-finals in Ballymena on the 1st of April.

Lurgan Blues defender James Singleton says Saturday showed the holders they'll have a match on their hands.

Ballymena United are reeling from Saturday's 4-2 defeat against Glentoran at the Showgrounds. 

Striker Cathair Friel was sent off and misses Tuesday night's re-arranged derby match at home to Coleraine.

Linfield's five-star win against Ards on Saturday brought up their century of goals for the season.

It was a red-letter day for striker Andy Waterworth who hit his 100th goal for the club.

 

The 30-year-old moved to Windsor Park from old rivals Glentoran in 2013.
