It's understood DUP officers will meet later to discuss the process and timetable for the election of a new party leader.

A two horse race for the leadership is now firmly underway - after Sir Jeffrey Donaldson threw his hat in the ring yesterday to join Edwin Poots in the contest to take over from Arlene Foster.

It's the party's first leadership contest in its 50 year history.
