Warrenpoint Town's return to the Danske Bank Premiership has ended in a narrow defeat against Glenavon at Milltown.

In the late kick-off last night, the newly-promoted side lost 3-2 after battling back from 2-0 down with a double from new recruit Darren Murray.

Here's the Point boss Matthew Tipton.

The Premiership's top scorer from last season, Andrew Mitchell, was back in Glenavon colours after his summer transfer from Dungannon.

Marc Griffin struck twice on his debut for the Lurgan Blues and teenager Bobby Burns smashed the winner.

Glenavon coach Kris Lindsay was impressed by the strike force.

Earlier in the day, champions Linfield launched their defence of the title with a 2-0 home win against Carrick Rangers.

Joe Gormley marked his return to Cliftonville with two goals in an action-packed 6-3 victory for new Reds boss Barry Gray against Ards at Solitude.

Oran Kearney celebrated a new three-year contract as Coleraine manager with a 3-1 win away to Dungannon - despite having defender Steven Douglas dismissed.

Curtis Allen scored both goals for Glentoran as they started the season by beating Ballinamallard 2-1 at Ferney Park.

Crusaders had beaten Ballymena 4-1 at the Showgrounds on Friday night.

There's a full set of Premiership fixtures on Tuesday evening.
