Top level sport back from lockdown with a big day for football and rugby

Covid permitting, top level sport is due to return from lockdown on Saturday with a big inter-pro rugby match and a full programme of fixtures in the Danske Bank Premiership.

All sporting activity was banned for a week from Boxing Day under Stormont's coronavirus restrictions.

However, elite competition is about to kick-off again.

Ulster and Munster will put their unbeaten Guinness PRO14 records on the line at Kingspan Stadium on Saturday evening.

The two teams top their respective conferences going into the New Year, with Munster having won all of their games in all competitions.

Ulster avoided a third loss in a row when they won away to Connacht last week and will hope to extend their lead over Leinster in Conference A with a 10th straight victory.

It's back to business in the Danske Bank Premiership after the big Boxing Day derbies were wiped out. They've been rescheduled for Saturday week.

So, here's the plan for the next fortnight, starting with this Saturday, January 2nd:
