Rory McIlroy has missed the cut at the US Open at Erin Hills, Wisconsin, for the second year running.

The World Number 2 was 13 shots off the lead, 6 over-par after carding a first-round 78.

A 71 on day 2 wasn't enough to bring him out of the danger zone.

Another former US Open champion, Portrush's Graeme McDowell joined the exit list with 5-over-par.

Fellow major champion, and playing partner, Jason Day bowed out on 10-over-par.

Defending champion Dustin Johnson also failed to make the weekend, having finished on 4-over-par.

The lead is shared by four players, including England's Paul Casey and Tommy Fleetwood.
