Linfield shot stopper Roy Carroll will not serve suspension after Irish F.A review sending off against Glenavon

Linfield goalkeeper Roy Carroll had his red card from Saturday's Premiership game with Glenavon rescinded.

The Northern international was sent off for allegedly spitting during the game at Mourneview Park.

After the match, the referee said that he had made a mistake.

The Irish FA's disciplinary committee reviewed the incident and said ''an error had occured."

A statement from the IFA said:

"On Saturday 5th November, Linfield FC goalkeeper Roy Carroll was sent off in a game against Glenavon FC.

"Subsequently, the referee in the match contacted the Irish FA Disciplinary Committee to say that the decision was incorrect.

"The Irish FA Disciplinary Committee decided that an obvious error had occurred which they have the power to rectify under Article 1.9 (2) of the Disciplinary Code.

"It was therefore decided that the player should not serve any suspension (including the automatic suspension)."

Carroll is now clear to play in the rearranged league match with Ballymena United at the Showgrounds.

Both sides are locked on 27 points after 14 games played in the Danske Bank Premiership.
