UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has tested positive for coronavirus and is now self isolating and working from home.

"I've developed mild symptoms of coronavirus - that's to say a temperature and persistent cough," he confirmed in a video posted on his Twitter account.

"On the advice of the chief medical officer I've taken a test and that has come out positive."

Mr Johnson said the symptoms started within the last 24 hours as he vowed to keep on working.

"I will continue to lead the government’s response via video-conference as we fight this virus," he wrote.

"Together we will beat this."
