Two men arrested in connection with west Belfast burglary

Two men, aged  38 and 34, have been arrested after attackers broke into a house in west Belfast armed with an arsenal of weapons.

Police say two men entered the home in the O'Neill's Lane area of the city around 8.50pm wielding a hatchet, iron bar, replica gun, hammer and a knife.

A fight broke out between the attackers and a couple who were at home at the time.

The man was injured and the woman was left severely shaken by the incident.

Detective Sergeant Natalie Moore said: "It was reported that these two men entered the property and an altercation ensued between the suspects and the male and female householders.

"The man sustained minor injuries while the woman was left severely shaken by the ordeal.

"Damage was also caused to the property during the incident.

"Two men, aged 38 and 34, have been arrested on suspicion of offences including aggravated burglary with intent to commit grievous bodily harm, threats to kill and criminal damage. They remain in custody, helping with enquiries.

"We are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and saw anything, or was in a vehicle and may have dashcam footage, to contact us on 101, quoting reference CW 1871 of 21/09/21."
