The future of Portrush Air Show could be in doubt after funding was cut by Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council.

Cost cutting measures totaling £2.2m were agreed by councillors last night in a bid to reduce the council’s debts of almost £70m.

The Air Show attracts funding of almost £250,000.

The cost-cutting measures will also hit recycling and environmental services in the borough.

Wednesday night's meeting heard an independent financial review provided a basis for 2020 / 2021 budgetary proposals.

However, councillors postponed setting rates for the area as they await clarification on potential savings.

It's understood other options are being looked at to ensure the viability of the airshow, but some councillors fear it may be at risk.

Tens of thousands of people flock to the north-coast for the annual event, which has seen regular performances from the Red Arrows.
