Two arrests following arson attack in east Belfast

Two men have been arrested following an arson attack in east Belfast. 

A pile of wood was placed against a first floor flat in the Mount area before being set on fire just after 10.30pm last night. 

No one was inside at the time, however the property was damaged during the incident. 

Both suspects, aged 37 and 24, are being questioned on suspicion of endangering life with intent. 

Detective Sergeant Eric Fairfield said: “Shortly after 10:40pm, it was reported that windows of a first floor flat in the area were damaged.

''It is believed that a quantity of wood was placed in the flat and set alight, which caused damage to the property.

''No one was inside the property at the time of the incident. Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service attended and extinguished the fire.

“The men were arrested a short time later on suspicion of arson endangering life with intent. They are currently in police custody at this time.

“Enquiries are continuing and anyone with any information in relation to this incident is asked to contact detectives on 101, quoting reference number 2197 16/09/20.''
