A man with an address in Dublin has appeared at Derry Magistrate's Court today charged with the attempted murder of a police officer in Eglinton outside the city in 2015.

Kieran Maguire (33) of Kippure Park in Dublin appeared by videolink from a police station in Belfast after being brought from the Republic of Ireland on foot of a warrant.

He was charged with possessing a under vehicle improvised explosive device with intent to endanger life on June 18 2015.

He was also charged with the attempted murder of a police officer on the same date.

A police officer confirmed that the warrant for Maguire's arrest had been processed on March 10 2017.

The officer also said he believed he could connect the defendant to the charges.

Maguire did not speak during the brief hearing and nodded when asked to confirm his identity.

A defence barrister said there were no issues with the warrant and there would be no bail application.

A prosecution representative said that there was a co-accused in the case who had been returned for trial at the end of last month and the intention was to join the two cases.

She asked for a four week remand and said it was hoped that it would be possible to set a date for a PE then.
Maguire was remanded in custody to appear again on May 19.
