An animal feed store was destroyed in a huge blaze on the outskirts of Belfast.

The fire at the Duncrue industrial estate to the north of the city took hold around 11pm on Thursday.

More than 60 firefighters were involved in the operation to bring the fire at the storage unit under control.

Striking footage of the flames and smoke were captured by people passing on the nearby M2 motorway.

The firefighters, serviced by 13 engines, worked through the night to bring the blaze under control and prevent it spreading to nearby properties.

The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service said crews would remain on site throughout Friday as they continued to deal with the aftermath of the incident.

A Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service Spokesperson said:

“NIFRS were alerted to a fire incident at the M2 Business Park, Duncrue Street, Belfast at approximately 23.10hrs on Thursday 14th November.

On arrival fire crews were met with a significant and well developed fire in a large storage unit containing large quantities of agricultural feed materials.

A total of 13 fire appliances and more than 60 fire personnel were involved at the scene.

Fire crews have worked hard throughout the night in difficult conditions to bring the fire under control and to protect neighbouring property.

The fire is now under control and a number of fire crews will remain onsite until daylight Friday morning, when operations will resume fully. It is expected that fire crews will be onsite dealing with the incident until Friday afternoon.”
