Shayne stars to put brilliant Blues on the verge of Europa League group stages

Linfield are just 90 minutes away from becoming the first Irish League team to reach the group stages of the Europa League. 

It's after they scored a shock 3-2 win in Thursday night's play-off first leg against Qarabag at Windsor Park.

Former Everton player Shayne Lavery struck twice for the Blues including a brilliant individual goal, running from half-way to hit what proved to be the winner.

 

 

The performance had manager David Healy singing 20-year-old Lavery's praises...

 

 

The second leg is in Azerbaijan next Thursday and Blues fans say they've nothing to fear after the heroics at Windsor....

 

 

In other football news, ex-Linfield player Aaron Burns has left Coleraine by mutual consent.

And Derry City host Dundalk on Friday night in the second round of the FAI Cup (7.45pm).
