Institute have suspended one of their players in a suspected betting breach.

The club says he's admitted asking a friend to place a bet on Ballymena to beat Institute earlier this month.

The IFA and NIFL have been informed.

The IFA has also issued a statement:

"An Irish FA spokesperson said: “The Irish FA’s Integrity Officer, in partnership with UEFA and the gambling industry, monitors activity on matches where betting opportunities are offered.

“No suspicious betting activity was flagged in respect of this match, however in light of the club’s statement we will now liaise with Institute and other key stakeholders to ascertain if there has been a breach of the Irish FA’s betting rules.”

Two own goals helped Derry City to a 3-2 home win over Waterford in the League of Ireland last night.

Ex-Coleraine midfielder Ciaron Harkin had blasted the Candystripes in front early on.

The victory leaves Declan Devine's men with six points from their opening three league games.

They're sitting third in the Premier Division table, three points behind early pacesetters Bohemians.

Linfield could open up a 12-point gap at the top of the Danske Bank Premiership tonight with a win at Newry.

However, Blues boss David Healy laughs off suggestions the league's bottom team will be an easy touch....

Also this evening, second-placed Ballymena host Cliftonville while Glentoran welcome Warrenpoint.

They all start at 7.45pm.
