Michael Conlan is the new WBA interim featherweight world champion.

The west Belfast boxer beat fellow Irish fighter TJ Doheny on Friday night at Falls Park as part of Féile an Phobail.

It went the distance and Conlan impressed the 8,000 home fans to claim a unanimous points victory.

The 29-year-old has won all 16 of his fights as a professional and is now in line for a world title shot.

Meanwhile, there was also a home win in the North West.

Derry City beat Drogheda 3-0 at the Brandywell.

It moves them above the visitors into fifth place in the League of Ireland table.

Jamie McGonigle scored the first goal on his home debut after joining the club from Crusaders.

Northern Ireland international Danny Lafferty got the other two in the second half to complete a comfortable victory.

Derry's next game is at home to Dundalk on Sunday week, August 15.
