A vigil has taken place in Belfast to remember murdered journalist Martin O'Hagan on the 20th anniversary of his death.

The 51-year-old Sunday World journalist was gunned down by the Loyalist Volunteer Force in Lurgan in a drive by shooting, as he left a pub to return home.

No-one has ever been convicted of his murder.

The protest outside the Police Ombudsman's Office earlier was organised by the National Union of Journalists to highlight the failure to bring anyone to justice for Mr O'Hagan's killing.

A new NUJ banner featuring Martin was also unveiled.

The Sunday World has previously named a killer gang in print suspected of murdering Mr O'Hagan.

His then  editor Jim McDowell claimed agents were either indirectly or directly involved in the murder plot.

He said ; “The only way to get to the truth and possibly bring the killers to justice was through an independent investigation by investigators from outside Northern Ireland.”

Amnesty International is backing the NUJ in its quest for justice and closure for Martin O’Hagan’s family.
